Weekly Update
December 16, 2016

Naughty or Nice?: Mr. Martin, Sophomore Owen Byrnes, Senior Diana Blell, Sophomore Eoin Varden, and Senior Andrew Bucca have their picture with old St. Nick at Christmas Revels on Thursday night.
Christmas Celebrations!
Christmas draws nigh. We had a wonderful Christmas Revels celebration last night. Many families braved the frigid temperatures to make ornaments, design gingerbread cookies, and have their picture taken with Santa Claus. Our choir set the holiday tone with a magnificent concert. The Introduction to Theatre Arts class treated us to The Santa Interviews, a series of skits in which different denizens of the North Pole and others interview for the job of Chief Cookie Maker.
The spirit of the season can be felt throughout campus. There are at least three nativity displays in various nooks of the school (plus our magnificent outdoor nativity). Students have been working hard decorating classroom doors for Spirit Points. On Monday, we'll start playing Christmas music as students change classes.
Our culminating activity will be a Christmas concert and pageant on Tuesday at 10:30 AM, which will include a traditional pageant. All are welcome.
Christmas Joy: (Top to Bottom, L to R) The Choir belts out a holiday tune; Prancer (Sophomore Olivia Notargangelo) interviews with Santa (Sophomore Elizabeth Saltzman) for the job of Chief Cookie Maker in the Santa Interviews while the Master Cookie Maker Elf (Sophomore Sebastien Joseph ) looks on; the Boncaldo triplets decorate gingerbread people.
Happy 80th Birthday Mrs. Jankord!

Our beloved lunch lady, Mrs. Julie Jankord turned 80 today! The school held a birthday celebration for her at all of our lunches today, including cake and three rounds of singing! We wish you nothing but health and happiness to someone who has dedicated decades of service to AWHS.
80 Years Young: Mrs. Jankord rightly received the adultation of the school today for her momentous birthday.
Field Trips
Friday featured two incredible field trips. Mrs. Beverly Ekstrom's Spanish IV students and Mrs. Diane Jackson's French IV students went on a combined trip to the Museum of Fine Arts to examine the Impressionist collection there. Both classes have been studying the impressionist art of their respective cultures, including giving presentations, and this trip provided the perfect capstone to the experience.

Mrs. Stephanie Mariano's '08 Presentational Speaking class went to the QCAP Head Start program in Quincy to read children's stories to the four-year olds there. It was a great experience!
Strong Immpresion(ists): (Top to Bottom, L to R) Mrs. Ekstrom and Mrs. Jackson's classes pose at the Museum of Fine Arts; Ms. Mariano's class takes a group photo in front of QCAP Head Start; Junior Sara Green makes a presentation on a masterpiece.
No After School Supervision on Tuesday
There is not after school supervision on Tuesday and we ask that everyone make arrangements for students to depart AWHS as close to the 11:30 dismissal time as possible.

We will also remind everyone that after school supervision in the Cafeteria ends at 5:00. Students cannot “hang out” in the locker rooms for extended periods while waiting for winter practices to begin.

Calendar Change: January 13 11:30 Dismissal
Friday, January 13 will be an 11:30 Dismissal. This is a change on the calendar and will accommodate our faculty working on our NEASC Re-Accreditation. Every 10 years, AWHS must be re-accredited by NEASC and we are at the onset of the process. This is the first time this year we have had to affect student time in class.
January 13 is the last day of school before Martin Luther King weekend and mid-term examinations. The early dismissal gives our students the opportunity to get a jumpstart on a long weekend of studying.
Seventh Grade Day of Service
Mr. Richard Martin and his Seventh Grade students assembled this video highlighting their Day of Service last week. It’s amazing.
7th Grade Day of Service at Greater Boston Food Bank
While we’re on the seventh grade, check out this video of Mrs. Beverly Ekstrom’s Spanish 1A class singing Cascabel, which is Jingle Bells in Spanish.
Mrs. Ekstrom is a Natural Conductor!
Get Your Archies Ties
Many people have noticed the snazzy AW Archies Tie that some members of the faculty and Administration have been wearing this year. We are pleased to offer them to all of you for $30. There’s a supply in the Main Office so you can stop by and get this great stocking stuffer. Email Dr. V for more information.

Looking for More Future Bishops
It is not too late to apply to Archbishop Williams for next year! If you know anyone who should be a Bishop, please encourage them to apply. Any questions should be sent to our Director of Admissions, Mrs. Brett Marcotte, bmarcotte@awhs.org.

Morning Locker Room Access
Locker rooms are opened at 7:30 AM. Students who arrive before 7:30 must report to the Cafeteria, regardless of how much athletics gear they are bringing to school. Some students have been attempting to cut through the Dig or leaving their hockey bags in the foyer of the Gym. There is plenty of room to bring everything to the Cafeteria and then carry their equipment to the locker room when the 7:30 bell rings. Food and all non-water beverages are not permitted in the locker rooms.

And Lastly: Stay Warm!
In our first winter blast, it is important to bundle up and stay warm. If there ever was a reason to make sure your child has AWHS outerwear, this would be the occasion!
As always, if there is anything we can do to better serve you or your child, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for choosing Catholic education and being part of the Archbishop Williams community.

Definitely not Keith Lockhart: Dr. V guest conducts Sleigh Ride at the Christmas Concert on Thursday.
