Archbishop Williams’ 7th Graders hold Variety Show for Independence Manor Senior Residents

The sound of poetry, music, trivia, drums and applause could be heard echoing through the halls of Independence Manor as AWHS’ 7th Graders staged a Variety Show for their neighbors living across Independence Ave.  As a part of the 7th Grade’s service project, coordinated by Campus Minister Carol O’Brien and teacher Mary Wisbach, the students performed numerous musical numbers and engaged the audience in what was an entertaining and enjoyable morning for all involved.

Resident Nancy Nicosia wrote a letter to the students and School thanking them for putting on such a great show. “As a resident it was my privilege and great pleasure to be in the audience and enjoy the presence of the 7th Grade students and their individual talents as they intermingled with the residents or entertained us with their individual talents on stage.”  Nicosia added, “We sat back and relaxed and enjoyed talented singers, dancers (Irish step & solo), an exhibition of Karate, amazing talent with a ball and hockey stick, poetry and a fantastic drummer; such variety.”

After the show, the students and audience enjoyed some refreshments and good conversation.

Nicosia concluded, “A most sincere Thank you and God Bless all of you from Archbishop Williams – Faculty and Students who came to Independence Manor. How fortunate we were to have you share your time, talent & presence with us.”

The 7th Graders concluded the morning by leading a group sing-along of “Do-Re-Mi” from Sound of Music.

As the students departed to head back to class, the residents waved goodbye and said, “Come back anytime, even tomorrow if you like!”

The AWHS 7th Graders not only experienced a fantastic opportunity to meet their neighbors, but also were able to observe first hand the joy and excitement one can bring to others by singing the song of service for their community.
