Members of the Archbishop Williams High School boy’s hockey team celebrated the new year in a very special way. On New Year’s Eve, 20 members of the team visited the Sunrise Senior Living Center in Braintree and celebrated the with Sunrise’s senior residents.
The team brought gifts, served food, listened to stories and in the words of a senior resident,
“made us feel young again.”
“One of the major components of an AWHS education is service,” said Carmen Mariano Ed.D., AWHS principal. “Right now our boys are giving meaning and life to that word service.”
The celebration began at 3:30 p.m., a little earlier than most New Year festivities. The team went to Sunrise directly from their afternoon practice session. Members of the team, led by senior captains Michael Sorenti, Ryan Dunn and Nick Menzel came up with the idea of the celebration on their own.
“We just really wanted to give back,” said Sorenti.
Mariano, who joined the team in the celebration added, “ I am very lucky and very proud to be the boys’ principal.”
