Commencement 2018!

Our traditional, dignified Commencement ceremony had numerous highlights, including an outstanding Valedictory address by Caroline Bloomer on the value of time and the warmest of welcomes by Class President Kate Murphy. Salutatorian Steven McCormack also made sincere remarks to his class in telling them laugh often and laugh at themselves. In an historic moment, Hanwen (Alex) Chen became our first international student to win the Williams Award, the highest honor AWHS bestows on a member of the graduating class.

We were fortunate to have Archdiocese of Boston Superintendent Kathy Mears deliver the Keynote Address. Superintendent Mears offered some wisdom from Pope Francis to "go forward" and use your Catholic Education to do well, but also to do good.

During the ceremony, we had four special presentations. First, we welcomed our long-serving Dean of Students, Mr. Dan Tarpey, to give the diploma to his daughter, Mary. Second, the former Assistant Principal of St. Clement High School, came on stage to help give the diploma to Alex and John Zhang, who joined our community as seniors when St. Clement's closed last summer. Third, we honored our four retirees--Mr. Bob Uhlar, Mrs. Eileen Roth, Madame Diane Jackson, and Mr. John Sullivan.

Lastly, and most poignantly, President Dennis Duggan '70 read the Honorary Diploma that will be given to the family of Kate McCarthy in recognition of the ways she still continues to inspire her class. It was a fitting tribute.

Now the only thing left is to see how the Class of 2018 goes out and sets the world on fire. We cannot wait!
