All Students entering Grades 9-12 for the 19-20 school year (except those taking AP English) must choose ONE book from their grade level book list below and complete the High School Thematic Notebook Form.  AP students refer to your separate link.

AP English

AP Literature and Composition student must read all of the following novels and complete a dialectical journal for each novel.

1. The Turn of the Screw  by Henry James
2. Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
3. The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner
4. Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut

Attached is a sample of the dialectical journal that the AP Literature students must complete for each novel read over the summer.  

**AP Literature students DO NOT need to complete any additional summer assignments for English class.
**AP Literature students DO need to complete the school-wide summer reading assignment.

The dialectical journals will be collected the first day the students meet for class.  If a student does not complete the journals on time, they will not be permitted to remain in the course and will be moved to another English IV course that their schedule allows.

School-Wide Reading Assignment

All students in Grades 9-12 are required to read the Jason Reynolds poem, For Everyone.  Teachers will incorporate this poem into classwork in both English and Theology classes during the school year.
