Scholarships for Seniors
The following awards are available to graduating seniors, and vary in size depending on available funds and student need.
Williams Award
This award epitomizes what administrators and teachers would like to think is the final product of an Archbishop Williams High education. It is meant for a student who realizes his/her strengths and weaknesses and capitalizes on the former, while attempting to minimize the latter. This award will belong to a student who is comfortable with himself/herself and who strives to push his/her limitations to learn all s/he can about himself/herself and the world of others
Sister Mary Blunt Award
This is a scholar-athlete award that is chosen by our Principal & Athletic Director. The eligible student will have shown academic ability and achievement, and dedication and commitment to athletic excellence, loyalty to his/her team(s) and performance in proportion to ability.
Class of 1970 Scholarship Award
For a promising communicator chosen by the English Dept. The student should have a firm grasp of the English language in his/her usage of proper grammar and who is a skillful writer.
Doreen Croke Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating senior whois planning to major in nursing.
The Helena A. & John A. Donoghue Scholarship
There are two aspects to this award. The loyalty aspect confirms that the awarded individual has perceived and has given himself/herself to the family spirit which exists at Archbishop. The service aspect of this award reflects a giving of self, time, energy and work for his/her classmates and the entire school community.
Jill Parrish Mahoney Nursing Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a committed nursing student preferably at St. Anselm's College who models faith, hope and joy and is academically talented and committed to a compassionate and caring nursing career.
Thomas Bolton “UNSUNG HERO" Award
Chosen by AWHS Administration & Faculty. The recipient will be a student who exhibits a notably positive attitude, and actively participates in school activities while not necessarily being the most successful performer in any of the activities or an outstanding achiever in academics. The recipient exhibits a high level of motivation in academic as well as non-academic activities.
The David Maglio Award
A memorial award chosen collaboratively by our Principal, Athletic Director, and Faculty
Lt. (jg) Frederick Murphy Memorial Scholarship
Given in memory of Lt.(jg) Frederick Murphy of the NS Navy & Class of 1966 to a college-bound student of good academic standing.
Beatrice Priest Award
Awarded to the Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Williams award recipient.
Suzanne Sheehy Award
Chosen by the Mathematics Department chairperson and the principal. This award is granted to a senior who demonstrates superior effort in all aspects of scholastic life at Archbishop Williams, and who possesses a strong interest in the field of mathematics.
Steve Hassell Scholarship
Chosen by Principal and Mr. Hassell. This award is granted to a senior who has elected to pursue the profession of engineering. Eligible students must submit an essay stating the goals the student hopes to achieve as an engineer.
Dottie Klier Scholarship
This award recognizes a Scholar/Athlete chosen by Dottie's family.
Don Marshall Scholarship
Awarded to a female athlete, as chosen by the school and the Marshall family.
Paul Sullivan-Richard Russell Award
Awarded to a male hockey player.
John Finnegan Scholarship
Goes to a football player or cheerleader.
Craig Marini Award
Is awarded to a male hockey and /or baseball player.
Robert O’Brien Award
This award carries the name of a legendary AWHS teacher, and is given to the graduating senior who has maintained the highest four year average in history while exhibiting a capacity for scholarship, critical thinking, and analytical writing.
The Janeen Suliivan Memorial Scholarship
A committee of Janeen’s family and classmates will choose the recipient of this scholarship. She is to be a young women who embodies Janeen’s zest for life, her spirit of determination to achieve a goal, loyalty to family and friends and is to be someone whose presence has been an integral part of the identity of her graduating class.
Parents Association Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize two seniors, as chosen by our scholarship committee, who have exhibited loyalty, dedication, spirit and service during their years at Archbishop Williams High School. Applicants are asked to write an essay, showing how they have met the appropriate criteria of this award.
Daniel J. Heenan Memorial Scholarship
Applicants of this award are also asked to write an essay. The Heenan family chooses a winner based on his/her professed loyalty to classmates and team members, and on the strength of his/her work ethic.
Charles Benedict Memorial Scholarship
The recipient of this award is chosen for their positive attitude and quality of giving.
Edwin M. & Ruth S. White Scholarship
Michael Campanelli Family Foundation Scholarship
This award honors a student who is chosen by our administration reflective of his/her involvement in the Archbishop Williams Community and level of academic standing. Each year this award is chosen by the faculty and administration and alternates between male/female recipients.
Reuben & Lizzie Grossman Awards
William & Betty Sullivan Memorial Scholarship
This award is given to a student to help defray costs of college .
Brian Cullinan Scholarship
A male basketball player is chosen to receive this award.
Jane C. Donovan Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a female athlete who has participated in 2 or more sports.
John & David Messina Scholarship
This award is given to a hockey player.
Steven Adams Memorial Scholarship
A female soccer player is the recipient of this scholarship.
Paul W. Anderson Scholarship
An athlete is chosen by the Anderson family to receive this award.
