PE/Health
Goals:
In keeping with the philosophy of Archbishop Williams High School, the main goal of the Physical Education Department is to contribute to the development of a well-rounded individual by stressing overall physical fitness as well as providing an understanding of the physical, mental and social aspects of a lifetime of quality sports and recreation.
Objectives:
- to present to the students various types of activities such as individual and team sports, so the students may learn rules and regulations of such activities and have general knowledge of a variety of sports;
- to demonstrate and instruct the students in the basic motor skills of team and individual sports, so the students may attempt, practice and improve their development in motor skills for present and future use;
- to test students in the areas of agility, balance, endurance, flexibility and overall fitness and to make students aware of their physical strengths and weaknesses, and consequence thereof;
- to help all students develop some sense of team work, honesty and integrity, as promoted in the qualities of good sportsmanship, by participation in the various activities;
- to encourage each student to find some level of success in recreational and sport activities, by realizing his/her own degree of coordination, posture, reflexes and other motor functions.
Health Department
Goals:
In keeping with the philosophy of Archbishop Williams High School, the goals of the health course are to give students a basic understanding of the physiology and psychology of the human body. Based on this understanding, the goal will be to encourage students to adopt a lifetime of quality physical and emotional health.
Objectives:
- to encourage students to assume the responsibility for their own health;
- to develop decision-making solutions necessary to meet their health needs in a positive way;
- to aid students in learning how to use health resources and services;
- to make students aware of the relationship between personal health and life;
- to give students an overall understanding of the major health issues of today and their implications for our society.
