Lydia Sands, Courtney Wilbur, Samathan Merrigan and Emily Merrigan together with ten AWHS students under the guidance of Carol O'Brien, AWHS Campus Ministry, braved the 100 degree heat to help a family in Man, West Virginia.
Ten Archbishop Williams High School students participate in Appalachia Service Project
AWHS students recently returned from a trip to Man, West Virginia where they volunteered their time with the Appalachia Service Project, a Christian ministry that fosters human development by addressing the housing needs of Central Appalachia.
The following ten AWHS students spent a week in the rural community of Man, West Virginia to assist with a number of house repairs, including roof mending, floor and foundation repairs, creating secondary exits and building porches:

"Going to Appalachia was a great experience; it was an amazing feeling knowing how much we helped these people," said Courtney Wilbur. "It was awesome bonding with all the other volunteers and families. I hope that AWHS continues to send groups to participate in the Appalachia Service Project because it is a wonderful opportunity that kids should embrace. I will definitely be back there next summer."
"The entire school is proud of the work these students performed in Central Appalachia," said Dr. Carmen Mariano, President of AWHS. "What a wonderful way to have spent a portion of their summer vacation - through their loving labor, these remarkable youths have helped families whose needs are great."
