Matt Mahoney named Archbishop Williams Girls Basketball Head Coach

Last month, Archbishop Williams High School Interim Head Coach Matt Mahoney stood center court with the Lady Bishops Basketball team as they received their 2015 MIAA D.3 State Championship trophy. This week, Mahoney was named Girls Basketball Head Coach, effective immediately.  A longtime basketball coach and official, Mahoney sees this as a wonderful opportunity to continue the strong tradition of winning at Archbishop Williams.  

 “I am excited to be leading the program at Archbishop Williams and I am looking forward to adding to the success that we as a program have enjoyed in the past,” said Mahoney. 

Mahoney has a strong basketball resume including over 12 years coaching at Archbishop Williams where he was an assistant coach on four State Championship teams - 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2015. He is a certified IAABO referee and the past president of Holbrook Youth Basketball.  He also has coached many successful AAU teams including the Bay State Magic and the Mass Ducks. 

“We are thrilled to have Coach Mahoney officially take the helm of our Girls Basketball program,” said AWHS President Dennis M. Duggan, Jr., Esq. ’70, “Over the past 12 years, Matt has played an essential role in our success and has been a wonderful mentor to our student athletes. We are confident that we have the right person to lead the program into an equally bright future.”

Mahoney and his family live in Holbrook. His daughter, Lauren ‘06, a three-sport athlete at Williams was inducted into the School’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
