The Archbishop Williams Community suffered a great loss earlier this week with the passing of our faculty member, minister, colleague and friend Joe Ondus.
Joe arrived at AWHS in 1993 when he became a full time faculty member of the Theology Department. In the years to follow, he taught Theology, Latin and Public Speaking and served on many committees within the Archbishop Williams community. In 2006 Joe became Director of Campus Ministry, responsible for coordinating School Liturgies, Retreats and Community Service. This position included teaching a senior Peer Ministry class which he described as helping students to experience the importance of Christ-like leadership in the world today.
The AWHS administration and community soon recognized that there was no better role model for Christ-like behavior and leadership. In addition to his role as Director of Campus Ministry, Joe continued to teach Theology and Public Speaking. In 2011, Syracuse University approved Joe's Public Speaking course which enabled participating Archbishop Williams students the option of obtaining three Syracuse University credits. Moreover, Syracuse approved Joe as adjunct instructor for the University.
All Joe did every day was teach, support and minister to the needs of our students. We mourn his loss and celebrate his life, and give thanks for the time we had with him.
All members of the AWHS community are invited to write their thoughts, memories or prayers for Mr. Ondus through this link.
We will have a Memorial Mass and Reception to celebrate Joe's life on Saturday, April 27 at 10a.m. in the Archbishop Williams auditorium. Please RSVP to Kathleen Habel at email@example.com
The Ondus Family will establish a scholarship in Joe's name. Contributions may be sent to AWHS, C/O Patricia Fennessy, 40 Independence Avenue, Braintree, MA 02184.
