Weekly Update
January 20, 2017

Order in the Court: The Prosecution and Defense in both of Ms. Jordan Grubb's (left) Law and Justice classes take the stage in their Mid-Term mock trial.
First Semester Officially Over

Mid-term examinations have come and gone. We have officially concluded the first semester. It was a good, quiet week with everyone focused on their studies. Now we turn the page for the second half of the year.

Class Meetings

The turn of the semester is a good time to reflect all things from academics to social behavior. Beginning Monday with the seniors and ending Friday with the 7th and 8th Grade, we will hold class meetings during Homeroom. Administrators will review our collective high expectations for an Archbishop Williams student—both in school and outside—and remind them of the consequences of both good and poor decisions.
Studying Pays Off: Our students focused on their exams.
Catholic Schools Week

In two weeks, we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week. The theme for Catholic Schools Week is the same as last year: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.

On Monday, January 30, members of the AWHS community will travel to their elementary school and donate books to the school library.

For Wednesday, February 1, Bishop Dooher will celebrate Mass at 10 AM. Mass dress is required and all in our community are welcome. (We expect that the Bishop will bestow his customary gift to the school community).

On Thursday, February 2, the Junior class will travel to locations throughout the area for a day of service.

Lastly, on Friday, February 3, we will hold Faculty and Student Appreciation Day. It will be a dress down day and cake will be served at lunch.

Women in Science

A record 22 AWHS students have been selected for Boston College’s Women in Science and Technology program. This is a phenomenal opportunity to visit Boston College over a series of weekends and work with BC professors and students conducting labs and learning about opportunities throughout the science.

Thank you to Mrs. Funderburk who has worked tirelessly to build our relationship with Boston College and have this opportunity for our students.

The following students will be participating:
  • Stephanie Allen
  • Taylor Burgess

Winter Open House
On Wednesday, January 25, AWHS will have its Winter Open House at 6 PM. If you know any families that should be applying to Archies across all grades, including transfers that have not yet taken a tour of the school, please encourage them to attend. We have a rolling admissions process through the spring, so there is still time to apply!

And Lastly: Inauguration Day

On some level, it was a shame that today was the last day of exams. We did not have the opportunity to discuss with our students today the always historic inauguration of a new president. (Although it was neat to see some students before the Law & Justice Mock Trial stream President Trump’s swearing-in on their iPads at noon today).

The peaceful transfer of power is such a hallmark of our democracy and on this day I think of the words of President Jefferson during the first transfer among political parties. Upon marking his inauguration after defeating President and local hero John Adams, Jefferson stated, “We are all Federalists. We are all Republicans.” So may that spirit of unity carry us through in the coming days.
As always, if there is anything we can do to better serve you or your child, do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for being part of our family at Archbishop Williams.

Pax,

Dr. V
