Over a three-day period in the last week of August, current AWHS seniors will work with guidance counselors and select members of the faculty to get a jumpstart on the college application process. It’s hard to believe, but application deadlines will be here before we all realize. The more work we can do before classes begin, the easier it will be for everyone.
- Dates: August, 23,24,25, 2016
- Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Location: AWHS (80 Independence Ave, Braintree, MA 02184)
- Cost: $75.00(Online Registration)
- Signup Deadline: Wednesday, August 17th, 2016
It is expected that students will attend all three days of the program.
Students should bring their iPad.
The cost of the program includes snacks and other light refreshments and a bootcamp T-Shirt.
The Program: The boot camp will cover the Common Application, the shift in using Naviance as an application organizer, constructing a resume and scholarship searches. However, the majority of the time at camp will be spent on writing a college essay. If students dedicate themselves over the three days, they should have a reasonable polished draft of one essays. Attending boot camp offers the opportunity to truly have a refined college essay when it is time to apply.
Students will have “homework” during these three days. At the end of every day, they will be expected to go home and work on their college essay and bring a draft for editing the next day. Not only will faculty edit student work, but part of the exercise will be peer editing. Failure to arrive with a draft will minimize the effectiveness of the program for both the student and his or her peers.
