Surrounded by family, friends, coaches and administrators, Archbishop Williams High School student-athletes Mollie Manning of Hull and Kyleigh O’Donnell of Abington each signed a National Letter of Intent, confirming their college acceptances and athletic scholarships. Manning will go on to compete in Lacrosse at St. Anselm College and O’Donnell will play Div.I Softball at the University of Maine, Orono.
“We’re very proud of both of them,” said AWHS Director of Athletics Gordie McClay. He added, “both athletes work very hard and they’re great kids that will have successful futures in collegiate athletics.”
Mollie Manning, whom McClay coached in lacrosse and soccer for twelve sports seasons, was accompanied at the signing ceremony by her mother Carolyn and sister Julie. As she signed her letter of intent, Manning proudly wore a St. Anselm lacrosse shirt. Senior captain of the lacrosse and soccer teams, Manning has also played on the AWHS girls basketball team. “I fell in love with St. Anselm’s as soon as I saw it,” Manning said. “It’s exciting to know where you are going and to know you’ll be playing there next year,” she said.
While wearing a University of Maine shirt and cap, Kyleigh O’Donnell signed her Letter of Intent to attend The University of Maine, Orono and to continue her successful athletic career in Softball. Her parents, Shannon and Thomas, joined her along with AWHS softball coach Bill O’Brien. O’Donnell said she was happy to sign. “It’s such a relief to know where I am going,” O’Donnell said. “I went up to Orono just this past weekend for my official visit and I love the school.” A pitcher and captain on the varsity softball team, O’Donnell is looking forward to her fourth spring season with the Bishops. She also has two years of experience as a pitcher with the Mass Drifters club team and was a senior captain of the AWHS volleyball team.
